Why is it necessary to have UPC code on Amazon
As an ordinary seller, it is not necessary to have a deep understanding of the specific origin of UPC (Universal Product Code) and what format it is composed of. Just need to know three things:
1. Uploading products must provide UPC or apply for exemption;
2. Differences between UPC, EAN, ISBN, and ASIN;
Where can I legally purchase.
When online shopping first became popular, sales platforms encountered a headache of how to link online orders with offline shipped products? They found that in the offline market, each product has a ID number number, which is the UPC code. Every time the product is sold, the actual inventory will be updated in time.
So, Amazon also used this method to label products: each product sold must have a unique identifier. Although customers do not need to scan barcodes when purchasing products online, the UPC code system can automatically track inventory in the Amazon store. This greatly improves the efficiency of tracking and managing inventory.
So, every product sold on Amazon has a unique numerical string assigned to it, called a unique product code or Amazon UPC code. The purpose of these codes is to classify the products sold on Amazon, which can help identify each individual product on the site and the store selling them, making it easy to search for or sell them.
How to upload products without UPC after successful Amazon seller application
The upload steps are as follows.
1. Manage inventory → Add products
2. Enter the page
Click on 'I am adding products that are not sold on Amazon'.
3. Choose to approve the same category
Taking the example above as an example, the product has been approved as a sports category, so "sports and outdoor" should be selected as the main category. Then delve deeper into the subcategories and find the one that is closest to the product.
4. Enter the editing page
After selecting the category, you will see the page for editing product information.
Enter the product name, manufacturer (you can enter the same name as the brand name), and a name that is exactly the same as the brand name submitted when applying for GTIN exemption. For example, if the submitted BC Sports has been approved, enter BC Sports.
Please note that there is no asterisk next to the product ID field. As the exemption has been obtained, there is no longer a need to enter UPC or EAN codes for the brand.
Under the "Offer" tab, fill in the necessary quotation, SKU, product status, and shipping mode. If using FBA mode for shipping, select FBA.
After filling in the other required fields, click the "Save and Complete" button. After about a few minutes, you can see that the product is listed under the management inventory.
If FBA mode is selected, after clicking the "Save and Finish" button, you will see the "Select Barcode Type" page. Since there is no manufacturer's barcode (UPC or EAN), simply choose the Amazon barcode, which is commonly referred to as FNSKU.
After clicking the "Save and Continue" button, you will directly enter FBA delivery mode. If you do not need to deliver the product too quickly, you can ignore the following steps.
